i think buddy emmons used one for awhile, that's what's on the cover of his 'one for the road' album. should work well for steel.

There were 2 versions made.....one had 2 12's and the other had a 15 inch BW.The amp with th 15 put out 160 watts and had 2 channels...one clean and one with distortion.I had one and foolishly traded it off and was not able to get it back.

So if you come across the single 15 inch model grab it.

Back in the mid-80s, I had a Renown w/ 2 x 12s and thought it a great guitar amp. A buddy had one with the single 15 and I always thought it would make a great steel amp -- especially for those who play both steel and guitar and only want to lug around 1 amp. I've seen a few on ebay/craigslist and if I wasn't already amp poor; I'd picked one up.

If you take out the output transformer (2-12 model) the quality of the sound goes up considerably. I did that to mine and it sounded great.

but I still have it in the garage. I'd use it every night if it still worked. You can hear examples on youtube, just search Bill Bassett, steel guitar.
