Georgette, thanks for the picture of my hands. That pic is taken from the youtube video Dave Thornhill and I did as a tribute to John and Conway. I'm really flattered to be shown on a John Hughey selection. That is highly complimentary to be associated with anything John ever played. Thanks so much. _________________ Bob Hempker |

I'm confused now, on who's playing what.
However, Bob Hempker and Dave Thornhill, are definitely playing this tribute to John Hughey. And I must say, a real fine job indeed.
Here is Bob and Dave's tribute. Beautiful playing!
Youtube of Bob & Dave's Tribute to John
Bob, how did your hands get on the picture of John's playing, or was that you playing that one also?
That's where I'm confused. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Georgette actually posted the video on youtube. So I'd say whoever posted that video, is the one who used your hands on it?
As I said, unless it was Georgette or Jamie, who made the video?
Georgette, correct me if I'm wrong..
Thanks,
Don |

Don, I'm as confused as you are. That is not me playing on the song posted. It sounds somewhat like John. I wish it was me. It's a great job. But the picture of the hands are mine. I about fell over when I saw it. I know my hands and my black Emmons guitar. I don't have any idea how it got on there. I'm honored for my hands to be shown on something John played on. _________________ Bob Hempker |

Bob, You are a Super fine player yourself. Indeed John was one of my favorite players. And, I've always said that John made Conway what he became. Or, at least contributed to it in a Big way. And quite possibly, the style he played behind Conway, is what made him so huge as well. So I'll say they sure made for a great team together.
I found your tribute to be done with tons and tons of feeling, from both of you. A Great Job indeed.
Anyway, regardless of how your hands ended up on John's playing. At least now I know I'm not totally crazy..
The screen name of the person who put that video on the tube, is up on the left hand side above the video.
But Congratulations, however your picture got on there it's definitely you and your Emmons. Plus I'd say you deserve to be on it. Evidently someone else thought so too..
So that makes two of us at least who were confused. That makes me feel much better now..
Our best to you and yours,
Don |

Bob, that still makes two of us who are confused. But here are my thoughts on it:
As Georgette said, that really means a lot to her, and I'd imagine Her daddy feels the same, since the song was hopefully done by John, and if so, I'd imagine also, that John is well pleased with seeing your hands on his video, and smiling down also.
I agree with you on the fact that to me, it did sound like John playing, but then too, so did your tribute to him. Right down to your tone as well.
So the only thing now that I'm confused on, is it really John who's playing. Sort of weird in a real nice way, regardless. I think you will agree.
Maybe Georgette, or Jamie will comment. The only thing I feel, is whoever used your pic, should have at least left a credit saying who it was on the cover. That's the only thing that is clear to me at this point.
If I hadn't seen you playing on your tribute, and had only heard it, I'd have thought it was Papa John's playing. Tone wise the works.
So I guess we'll just have to wait this one out, and see who responds? As I said, I feel you should be noted for the use of your pic on it, regardless. |

Don, I really appreciate that. John was in such a league of his own. Not often do we see such a unique stylist and a great player in the same person. Now, I'm sure I'll get an argument out of someone on here about that, but in my opinion, that is one of the things so unique about John's playing. He had a left hand different from anyone I ever heard, and a right hand as fast and accurate as anyone's. He also had an abundance of plain 'ole talent. Everyone know what a wonderful person he was, also. All that doesn't come in the same package often. Again, I'm flattered they chose to use my hands on this. _________________ Bob Hempker |

This is one that really touches deep within a person's heart. George was one of my all time favorites, among many, but this one brings a big smile to my face, everytime I see it and listen. Actually there are two that really keep that smile going. I hope others enjoy them as much as I do. And, I'm told (at least) on the first one, it's been said to be Papa John playing steel?
George & Vestal, along with quite a true story
this one keeps the smile going
I hope others enjoy these as much as I do, and especially the story behind it. Vestal was a great lady. |
