Who played steel for Ernest in 1963? I was 6 years old and I saw them at Espy Park in Halls, Tennessee.

Probably Buddy Charleton, who replaced Emmons. |

I saw Ernest Tubb and the Texas two-by-fours about that time period and Buddy Charlton was on steel.
And doing an outstanding job, by the way!! |

I saw Ernest Tubb around that time. Got back stage after the show. I met Buddy Charleton there. I had no idea what that Nashville country tuning was as I was playing mostly hawaiin music. I asked him how he tuned his steel, and he actually got a pen and paper and wrote it down for me. I was in awe. I was only 18 at the time. I couldn't believe how friendly he was.
