I have a record collecting website called Vinylbeat.com. Recently I added a photo gallery of small label Texas & Oklahoma C&W LPs, that many of you might enjoy perusing. There's also a few sound clips.

I'm sure you local guys know and have played with some of these artists. The Billy Parker LP is where I heard Rocky Caple, who I used for Tunes Of The Week #19.

Where do you even begin? A Gene Crownover solo LP, "Tommy Duncan Live from The Riverside Ballroom", Gene Watson on Wide World (Did Gene ever rerecord "I Feel I Sin Coming On"), "Dancetown USA Featuring The Jimmie Heap Show", the great LP: "Texas Dancehall Music" and the great LP: "Johnny Bush and the Bandoleros Live at Dancetown USA" (here with it's original cover) and the Eldon solo LP and much, much more!!!
What better way to illustrate the deep, long time traditions of Texas country music and Texas steel guitar.
Hats off to Joe Goldmark.

What a treat these old albums are. You must have de-clicked the tracks you included, because they are pristine! Thanks.[/url] |

Holy Cow! Boy, did some of those bring back some memories. I've played with several of them over the years (i.e., Bill Mack, Tony Douglas, et al). Thanks for the post! _________________ Rains D-10 by Gary Carpenter |

Hi Egil, Jason, Owen, Jody, Wade & Robert,
Thanks for the comments, glad you enjoyed the Texas albums. I'm going to do a Bakersfield gallery in the near future. If anybody has any suggestions of other excellent obscure Texas albums, I'd like to know about them. I'm sure I'm omitting plenty. When you're a collector, half the battle is knowing something exists, then you can usually eventually track it down.
For those who don't know, Egil has the best steel guitar record collection (LPs, 45s, 78s & transcriptions) in the world (barring Hawaiian albums). And, that's not easy living in Norway! He helped me write the International Steel Guitar Discography. The eighth edition (red cover, 248 pages, steel guitar, Dobro & Hawaiian, every known steel instrumental) was last published in 1997. I don't have any more, but anybody desperately needing one could probably appeal to fellow steelers and come up with one, or find it on eBay some day.
Egil, no instrumentals on that Bobby Hankins LP. Jason I've never even seen another copy of that Moe Bandy album. It's not nearly as good as his later albums. How's your collecting going?
