One of the great San Diego lap steel players.

The tuning is (from low to high) B D F# G# C# E.

I have never seen movements quite like those, can't help but imagine Jerry Byrd's reaction to all that! But I liked the tune. Kinda like his dessert burritos, not quite how I'd do it, but whatever suits your appetite.

What a fun tune!

Technique is a means to an end. Whatever lets you get the music out, 's all good!

Great stuff. The tricone tune was really good too.

Is his 'steel' ceramic or plastic? That muted, short decay tone reminds me of when I've used the TV remote as a steel.

My initial impression / thoughts were quite similar; I could see the hair standing up on the back of Jerry's neck !

But then enjoying Robin's playing kicked in and reminded me that comparing Jerry to Robin's playing, personality, intents, etc ....is like comparing apples to barbeque armadillo (possum on the half shell).

------------

Robin's 'Steel Rehearsal' video (linked below) in that playlist is one of the very good example "studies" of playing 6th tuning voicings very well, ....and some pretty good views of just how "simple", easy and free flowing the 6th tuning serves things up.

Fun comments. (Especially about Jerry Byrd's [potential] reaction. ?? )

Robin is playing it correctly.

( He wrote the song- so it's his rules . . . )

I have held Robin's slide- and it feels like
machined Delrin- but he isn't sure. He said he'd
love to find another slide like it.

Glad you liked it- it's just some lap steel fun.
