Well, we're finally able to say with almost no uncertainty a show WILL be held on or about September 12, 2004 in the Columbus, Ohio area! The venue has been secured, performers are being drafted into playing at our inaugural event and there are only a few things left to firm up. So far, here's what we have:

The place will be The Marlin Dowden Charity Fund building located at 1410 Williams Road, Columbus, Ohio 43207. The proprietor, Mr Albert Dowden assures us a clean, fully equipped space with comfortable seating, food service that's Mom-approved, ample on-site parking, family oriented, G-Rated and generally a near perfect place for such an event. We're looking forward to Al's hospitaliy and if it's half what he promises the food alone will be worth the trip to see us!

We're shooting for an event that showcases the Steel Guitar in a familiar format or setting and introducing a few players maybe not seen at other events OR those who have been in hiding for whatever reasons. The venue as well as our plan is to be family friendly and bring the Steel Guitar to areas and people who might not get their fill these days. We'll be holding our event during the afternoon into early evening so as to accommodate most everyone's schedule. Time approximate will be 3PM until 8 or 9 latest. These events will also be alcohol and smoke-free to the comfort of everyone.

The admission will be $2.50 for paid members and the general public paying only $5. Should you decided to become a member the day of the show we'll waive the admission so you'll be killing two birds with one check!

Please bear with us while we're still growing and forming---we could use more members and volunteers for most every post that will need to be filled that day; bass players, drummers, schleppers, etc etc. Anyone who'd like more information about our needs should contact myself, Gary Preston, Ron Carter or Dennis Robinson---we'll be sure to respond quickly as we can certainly use your help.

Thanks for letting us bend your ears about our fledgling association and look forward to everyone's attendance in September!

Thanks , J.W. Great job as always .The membership meeting will start at 2:00 pm .Then the ''jam '' will start at 3:00 pm . The Steel players that we have commitment with are Phil Perry ,Ron Carpenter ,Dennis Robison ,Bob Allen. We have others that we are wanting to be a part of the first O.S.G.A. ''JAM''. We want the first one to be very entertaining and enjoyable for everyone of all ages . This jam and all others will have the family in mind . We will be doing some gospel as well as country music . We want the players to feel free to play anything that they want . Again we want this to be fun for all . I hear that the food is the greatest . Down home country cooking . We will need to support our host as J.W. has already mentioned .You will find this place to your liking to say the least . I think that it will seat around 225 people . Please folks lets support this with all that we have . It's the only way that we can grow and be a strong Association . We will be annoucing other things that we want to do at the meeting /jam .The ''jam '' is open for
everyone . You don't have to be a member to enjoy a day of good music , entertainment . We will up date the list of musicians in the very near future . If you have questions please don't be afraid to ask . We will do our best to answer those questions . Thanks ,hope to see you all on Sept . 12-th. Best regards,,,Gary .

You're totally correct in all your facts Gary---I was looking at the wrong notes when I posted the start times.

I would repeat we're aiming for an event that is very family friendly as well as convenient for those attending. Albert's food n' fixin's along with the general layout of this venue will be at least half the fun. Our thoughts are y'all can listen to steel guitar all day long, have a meal or snack and never have to miss a single note!

All proceeds over our actual costs to stage this show will go directly into the OSGA's general fund. In addition to keeping the OSGA operating and donating to our charitible designees this money will be used to produce more shows throughout the year. We're hoping within a few successful shows to invite one of the many wonderful professional players who rarely are in concert in our area. We've already begun talking with a few just to get an idea of their needs to attend one of our events. Of course we'll have to have a stellar backing band too just to round things out!

All that remains is for everyone who's interested to give us a call or email about becoming a member. Keep watching the Forum for announcements about the event in September as well as those upcoming later.

Thanks again guys and girls! J W

Hey Kenny and Steve---great ideas all! We have been in contact with Mr Lloyd Green and from what I'm told he's finished with traveling outside his immediate area----guess he's finally ridden that last tour bus. We won't stop trying to coax him out one more time but for now it looks like a stretch. After hearing "Jukebox Charley" on Lloyd's "Revisited" CD I'm convinced he would be a great addition to our roster--IF we could make that happen!

As for John and Doug they're certainly in our list of must haves, concert-wise. I heard John at Hummingbird's event this year and you just know he's never lost a thing and has only refined his great talent. Doug, too, only gets better with time AND he's got great endurance---he played nearly the entire day for the Gary Adams Benefit in Hillsboro a few weeks back.

Of course we'd like to sweeten our offering with Mr Sonny Curtis who's a home town boy for us. Really, I'd just like to steal his tone secrets but that's another story!

Keep the ideas coming in guys----as much as we like having the high-profile guys on our list we also have some wonderful players right here in Ohio--we'd like to get them more exposure here abouts!!

Hey Bob---welcome to Ohio!! I see at one time you lived in Arizona but I'm guessing you're now with us in central Ohio? Very good but I was hoping for our first long distance member. I have a friend in Atlanta who's a graphic designer and bass/6-string player I'm trying to join up but he's afraid the meetings would be tough to attend from there!

Why not email me or Gary Preston direct and we can maybe enlist you and the Mrs. into some draftee labor----IF you're interested and available?! I won't be bashful about asking since we want our event to be great from the beginning.

Looking forward to meeting and talking with you. Anyone else out there?!?! LOL

Hi, folks . I just wanted to say that this is our first open membership meeting and jam . We hope to be able to put a Steel Guitar Show on in the near future . When we do we will post it here on the forum . We are trying to dot all the ''i's'' and cross all the ''t's '' so as to make this enjoyable for all . We are trying our best to make this a great organization . But it takes a little time to make everything the way it should be . After it's all said and done i know that you will appreciate the efforts of all the workers that have gone beyond the call of duty . We hav'nt sent all the membership cards out as of yet but they are made . We want to also send you a newsletter with you card . So please bare with us . Thanks to all that have supported this so far . Best regards ,,,Gary .

Folks i'm happy to say that i found out this evening that a young man from Rio-Grande Ohio will be with us for the event . This gentleman is blind and he plays pedal steel and something else he sings like a songbird . I saw and heard him at Rick Troyers show a few months back and i was impressed to say the least . He is also a member of the O.S.G.A. and that makes him special . You don't want to miss this . His name is Donny T.Boggs . He is going to make a lot of music before he is finished with his career . Best regards,,,Gary .
