On my lap steel if I use 9 or 10 strings it will fret true but if I go to heavier strings I can tune fine but it will not play true to the frets. Any ideas? |

When you change gauge you will have to check/adjust the intonation (the length of the strings), The harmonic at the twelfth fret should be the same as when you place the bar on it, or in other words the twelfth should be absolute center in pitch, when you have the bar there the string should have the same pitch on both sides of the bar. |

Thanks Hugh, I can see what you are refering to. I guess it will be trial and error to find whether they need shortend or lengthend. This guitar has a tele type bridge with two strings on each adjuster. Sounds like fun, huh? I will give it the old try. Thanks again, I appreciate it. |

If its sharp at the twelfth lengthen the string, if its flat shorten it.
All my steels have only one bar as a bridge (stringmaster) |
