Good Morning,

It's instrumental time this week. Here's a clip with a good portion of swing:

I have no idea, but I heard a passage in there that sounds just like what I hear on Vince Gill's live take on "Oklahoma Swing" with John Hughey.

I must admit I don't know anything about the exact recording date and/or the other players, but the steel player is Ernie Hagar. Smile

Kind Regards, Walter

Walter:

Do you know if that is Ernie's group, or is it Ernie as a sideman with someone else? He didn't do much recording.

Hi Mitch,

To be honest, I don't know. The track comes from a compilation CD with 20 tracks, obviousky recorded at different times, with different musicians. The CD does not provide information about the recording dates and/or musicians. Some of the tracks (not this one) come from one LP Ernie did for Scotty's Mid-Land label (I think the title was "Steel Guitar Odysee"), the others maybe were taken from 45 records that were recorded through the years.

Kind Regards, Walter

Walter, would you tell the title of the instrumental?
I once asked Tony Gilkyson about Ernie Hagar and he replied. He played on "Steel Guitar Odysey".
Maybe he knows.

I tracked it down.

The song is Outside Inn.

It's from Ernie's first LP "Swinging Steel Guitar" on Sage.

The album was cut at Jim Meagher's Studio in Monterey, California, on a 4-track machine - with no overdubs. The musicians who backed up Ernie were : Walt Herrington (drums), Barney Carl (bass), George Johnson (rhythm guitar) and Jimmy Wright (lead guitar).

Thanks for the info and sorry for not mentioning the title but I think the track itself had it on.

Anyway, that is interesting information! Smile

Kind Regards, Walter
