I am referbing an older BMI and need to replace the fretboard. What is the best way to remove a metal one from an aluminum neck? I suppose a little contact cement would secure the new one but any help on the subject would be great. never done one ..

When I change them Scott I use a thin gauge guitar string (sorry, I said fishing line previously but that was on the car). Get it started on a corner of the old fretboard and work it back and forth while pulling it in either direction. Then when it's off, I use a cleaner wax to get the residue off. Other cleaners will work but you have to be careful not to get it on anything else. The replacement ones I've used have adhesive on them so I never had to put anything else on the neck to apply the new one.

And you have to ensure the replacement fretboard is properly aligned to the neck and scale for accurate fretting, don't you?

some people use a hair dryer to soften the glue and use a small gauge guitar string to pull underneath.
