Our ex-drummer moved to Brooksville. He wants to find some steelers near there and to eventually purchase a single neck to play.
Any names or clubs or places for Bill up there north of Tampa / St. Pete?
Thanks in advance, Chris |

Thanks, Roy.
Our club jams are the 2nd Wednesday of each month as Roy noted and linked you to the club web site.
I don't know anyone picking in any clubs in the Brooksville/Spring Hill area. There are some in Zephyrhills/Dade City area and probably the closest.
Summer is the "off season" in Florida and picking jobs are scarce. Just about everything is setup for the winter (November to April) when all the "snowbirds" are here, except for the beach or Orlando resort areas.
I'm doing a Monday evening show in Oxford (The Villages area) about 3 miles north of Wildwood. Our bass player lives in Brooksville.
Speaking of Wildwood, Bondz Music on US301 in Wildwood is about the only music store in the area that has any steels for sale. The owner, Johnny Bondz, is an excellent steel player and usually has a steel or two for sale (many are consignments). Bondz is also the "local" Peavey dealer. Wildwood is about 30 miles north of Brooksville (4th exit north on Interstate 75) from the SR50/Brooksville exit. (Catfish Johnny's Restaurant where we have the steel guitar club jams is the 3rd exit north).
Occasionally one of the club members has a steel for sale so that is another reason to come to the club jams. |

To add to what Jack & Roy said about our Steel Club.
I give lessons if he is inclined to need any.
In fact Bondz sends them to me as he is too busy to give lessons.
I have extra steel on hand for lessons.

Roy, Jack, and Don,
Thanks for your replies. My pal said no one up there knew anything about steels--but he didn't reckon with the Power of the Web, nor with the great people who play the instrument, like you guys!
Roy, the club might be a place for Bill to track down a decent pro S-10. As I said, he's a drummer and plays sax and other instruments, but was brave enough to sit down behind my Carter on breaks and pluck away. I think that's when he caught the bug . . .
Bill, are you reading this? Go meet Johnny Bondz at the shop; and get with Roy, Don, and Jack at the club, hokay?

Chris,
Welcome to Florida. Please come and visit us at Catfish Johnny's. I can tell you that if you enjoy the pedal steel you will enjoy our club. A great bunch of people getting together and some serious picking. Also a good time and laughs.
Hope to see you at one of our jam's.
