I bought this from Duane's Music in Troy, MO ((636) 528-4307) about 3 or 4 years ago, but have only played it out of the house twice.
Cosmetically, it has student guitar features. Mechanically, it has the same features as the professional models. This is what Duane told me. He also spoke with Bruce at Zum, who remembered this guitar.
3 pedals, 4 knees. Jimmy Day setup.
It's a good sounding guitar, but I already have two Emmons and need to downsize.
I paid $1900 and change, am asking $1600 + shipping as I'm anxious to sell.
You can view my eBay feedback under st-cyprien-1956.

How is the weight of the guitar? I am really looking for a lighter guitar so I can carry it easier to lessons, etc.... thanks |

Hi Tony and Michael,
The guitar weighs about 31 lbs. w/out the case.
As to the price, I paid over $1900 for it a few years ago. If you have knowledge of a comparable Zum Steel guitar currently available for less, I'd be interested to hear about it. The number "243" is embossed in the wooden frame underneath.

I meant "stamped", not "embossed".
I've owned an early Sho-Bud D-10, a Sierra S-10, a Mullen D-10, and (currently) two Emmons S-10s. I would rate the sound of the Zum below the Emmons but above the rest. This is the only Zum I've ever owned or played, so I'm not qualified to compare it with another Zum. Any questions about the provenance of the guitar would best be directed to the manufacturer.

This no wear close to a Stage One Zumsteel as It is a pro model. Don't let the black end plates and other parts fool you. This has the pro model undercarriage and changer . _________________ Daniel J. Cormier

Bruce Zumsteg made just a few of these guitars. They are the pro model but with an economy finish to the endplates, keyheads, pedal racks, etc. Entirely different than the student model Stage One. There was another earlier version that had a different style of changer mechanism and a sort of push-pull bellcrank setup. As Bruce became busier and more well known he abandoned these and concentrated on the polished out full blown pro guitars. Smart man! _________________ Doug Earnest

In 1995 I bought a s10 pro model from Bruce in St. Louis but it had polished end plates ( I think ) and Guys it was all "ZUM" super tone, played great and was a pro model. I've only seen very few of these built |

This is a good Zum, and Dan is a super nice person to deal with. Anyone needing a pro-model S-10 guitar might well consider this one. |

I have 3 Zums. My first is about an 1989 S-10. I can't rule it out as my favorite of the three. It's got alot of miles on it and still plays and sounds great. It's the one I grab if I need something light and ready to work. I tryed the original pickup, a GL E66 and ended up with a GL 10-1 as my favorite. |
