My friend who plays regular guitar asked me. I told him for sustain. Is that the correct reason? I think there might be more to it.

I can think of a couple of reasons.
If you press down on the strings with your bar you don't want to contact the fretboard and by having the strings up quite high, you have room for a capo between the strings and the fretboard. |

Higher strings = less pick damage to the fret board ... especially if you have a wood fret board like my non pedal guitar. I like that. _________________ Dennis

Another reason might be so a fellow guitar player can't use it!!!! |

I always picked so hard and deep that I would scratch and actally wear the finish of the fret boards. I finally solved this by putting a thin sheet of plexiglass from the pckups down to the twelth fret. I drilled out some holes for the screws and the plexiglass stayed flat. |

I bought a guitar one time and it looked like it was played with a claw hammer! |

One of my EH 150s looks like it was flayed with somebody's car keys. The finish is gone right down to the flame maple on both sides of the strings. With technique like that another inch of height might not have helped the guy who did this. _________________ Time flies like an eagle
