Here's some different sounds on the same type of tuning that Don Helms and Little Roy Wiggins used that will help you play other types of music and a few more chords. For details on the tuning see my page here:

My E13th Tuning Page

There will be a series of 3 tabs and sound files showing the use of open strings and a few string pulls behind the bar. These can of course be played on the standard C6th pedal steel, A6/C6 lap steel with no or just minor tuning changes to the low 6th string (raise it up a fret to a 7th note. After all you're probable already retuning your C6th "C" note between C and C# depending on the tune or style you are playing.

Awesome!! I love this tuning. I use it for much of my non-pedal playing. Your sound clip is great. One nice thing about this tuning is that you can get so many of the classic country sounds on it, and it also works well in playi8ng western swing.

Greg...I like it when you get inspired by a new tuning because we all benefit. Folks like yourself and Mike Neer are so generous with your knowledge. I thank you guys. I just started working on an E13 tuning that I found on John Eli's page so I'm looking forward to any future postings. It's an interesting tuning and the possibilities are vast. I'm just trying to get comfortable improvizing with it. I guess you just open up the fake books and roll up the sleeves. Thanks again for the posts and cheers.
