Four steel guitarists ( Alan Akaka, Kay Das, Greg Sardinha, Casey Olsen) created three brand new steel guitar CDs for the Hawaii Music Awards, seen here at the Manoa Ballroom, Honolulu on 11 April 2011. Twenty-nine genres of music were featured at the awards, of which steel guitar was one. Uncle Ronald Kanahele posthumously received a Lifetime Achievement Award at this event.

Sadly, it was subsequently announced that this was to be the last occasion of the Hawaii Music Awards....

Yes it is sad. I guess there is a cost to this which affects whether it continues or not.

Kay, I don't see your "hang loose" sign like you are one of the braddahs.

Aloha, Smile

Alan, Greg, and Casey are the best that Hawaii has to offer. All three are great players.

Do not forget that Alan Akaka has a great new CD out too; I do not recall the name, but I will find out. Others in the forum may know of it.

Daniel, my CD, "Moods and Moments" is available on CDBaby, also available as individual track downloads. iTunes forthcoming.

Don, my "hang loose" sign was a bit late in formation as I might have been a bit wide-eyed and legless at the time. They served great wine at the dinner. However, I was fully awake the next morning when I got a rare chance to kanikapila with Greg, and very nice it was too.

Here are excerpts from Alan Akaka's CD, "Simply Steel" with 12 "standards":

By the way, he is frequently heard advertising on Hawaiian radio spreading the gospel of the steel guitar. Way to go , Alan!
