Indeed a timeless classic that everyone recognises, even if they don't know the name.

The boys were only ~16 when they wrote this and pitched it door to door to the record labels in NYC.

I was playing an E9 arrangement of it at the Carter Booth at the ISGC the year S&J were inducted into the HOF. When I finished the song I looked up and Johnny was standing there! He said, "It'll never be a hit...".

We spoke for a bit. He was very much in awe of PSG, and the attention his song gets. It was number one in 1959, and won a Grammy 40 years later.

I learned the version I do from my friend, the late great Don E. Curtis. I miss him so much.

I think it's great that you can see him flick his wrist clearly to palm block. Playing in the middle of the neck gives it such a great tone... Loves it..
