I blew up my Black Widow speaker several years ago. It is the first series of BW with the spider web design on the magnet. It is a 1501, 4 ohm. It was in my Session 400 (which also blew up, but has been repaired with a new 1501sb speaker installed.)
I have been storing this old speaker for several years, and it seems I should either get it fixed or throw it away. I vaguely recall being told that the baskets are no longer available for these early BWs. If that is true, it seems the magnet is just a piece of junk. But if a basket can be obtained, I would appreciate a little guidance on where to get one. I assume I would need to know the correct replacement basket number to be sure that it matches the magnet.
Any input would be appreciated. |

You may want to hold off for a short time. I have been field testing a new Eminence neodymium magnet 15" speaker (currently designated as a "PS15") that will be marketed as a light weight (9 lbs) replacement for the Peavey 1501-4 BW speaker.
Tests, so far, using an MB200 amp have been positive, both my own and from other Steeler's comments such as "clean" "good bottom" and "good projection".
Eminence doesn't have a firm date for production but from the comments I'm getting from the engineering department that I've been dealing with, it's not too far off.
I've also been testing one of the SICA speakers that Ken Fox sells. The initial testing was that the SICA was a little smoother, but as the Eminence has gotten "broken in" it's mellowed out and I'm now getting about the same sound as I did with a Nashville 1000 and the stock 1501-4 BW speaker.
Ken Fox will also be selling the Eminence speaker when it's available.
I have some comparison samples on my web site. I used my Nashville 112 amp, with my "standard" EQ settings for the stock Nashville 112 speaker, the Eminence PS15 and the SICA 15" speaker. There are also samples using the MB200 amp and the PS15.
