Does anybody know specifically which phaser David Lindley used on Jackson Browne's Running On Empty album?

You can hear it on other lap steel players' songs around that time, so it must have been very popular.

Thanks.

After reading the Fretboard Journal article, I'd like to amend that to this:
He used a Bakelite Rickenbacker lap steel through a MXR phase shifter and a Dan Armstrong Purple Peaker into a Dumble Overdrive Special (#2). For more details, get a copy of the interview with Ben Harper (listed below).

Later on he used a Supro Console for standup work, along with a Supro Comet for lap playing, then a National Dynamic.

Here's a discussion on the TDPRI forum with other suggestions. Here's one on the Gear Page forum.

Ben Harper interviewed David Lindley for the Fretboard Journal in 2008 - back issues are still available.

Thanks so much Brad.
Yes, I know he used the CE-1 into the Overdrive Special. But there just has to be a very slow phaser in the loop, also......the oscillation is too prominent. You can really hear it on You Love the Thunder where his lead is way out front, not buried in the mix.

I have been cheap about spending the $16 for the Ben Harper interview since it may not help me either. You can see the ODS here, but they don't show the pedal board:

If no one knows the answer, guess I'll have to get it and hope its in there.

In the interview, Lindley says that the phaser is an MXR, no model #.
I`d guess it`s a Phase 90....

Mike,
I tried an MXR Van Halen model yesterday and it sounds gorgeous !
It`s based on the Phase 90 with an added mode button for two different phase modes. I liked the "more" mode better. Very Happy
