For a volume pedal i would suggest a Goodrich 120. They cost about $100 used. There are better pedals that cost more, but there aren't a lot of cheaper pedals that work with steel guitar. The issue with cheaper pedals like Ernie Ball is they use a 250k volume pot, when you need a 500k pot.

I like the Dunlop GCB Hi-gain pedal. Been using one for YEARS. NEVER changed the pot,has NO string to break, solid as a rock. Musicians Friend has them for 79.99.As far as a tuner, never found anything that does the job better than the Boss TU-12. If you want to spend three or four times as much as the TU-12 to get the same result,go ahead. Very Happy YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

I bought a "used" Goodrich 120 pedal, from a forumite. After a few years,(3 to 4 hours a day of use) I replaced the pot with one I bought from Tom Bradshaw.
Inexpensive and sounds great.
I use a Korg chromatic tuner, CA-30, also inexpensive, and works great for me.
You don't need to spend major $$$, unless you choose to.

John,
Head on up to Jim Palenscar's shop in Oceanside,
he's got many to try - then choose the one that works for you. Steel Guitars of North County - he's easy to find and a great source of info & help.

I currently am using the Ernie Ball pedal so I assume it has the 250K pot; what is the advantage of the 500K pot mentioned above? Also assuming there is some advantage, couldn't the pot in the Dunlop just be changed out?
