Yep, that's been on Ebay for a couple of months now. I think he might have originally been higher. There's a store near me trying to sell a not-so-well maintained Maverick for almost $800. Just because something is old, some people think that means it's a classic. _________________ Sierra Crown D-10 8+4, Sierra S-10 3+4, Carter D-10 8+7, Carter Starter 3+ a lot of engineering problems |

When I first saw this on Ebay a while back, the pedal bar was on the back legs? Yep, didn't know they would reach (not sure they will, never tried that before). I sent him a note to let him know they go on the front.

I'll take 6 of them. What a deal.
Oh. But Wait. "Free Shipping" -or- $450 for the guitar and $749 for the shipping. Sounds about right at todays prices to ship stuff. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Seems like everybody on eBay these days is trying to take advantage of some of poor sap. Sad, but somebody will probably pull the trigger on this POS.

Also, I saw a used dust catcher Sho-Bud fretboard on E-bay asking $75.00, I saw it back on there for $50.00 a few days ago! Go figure! |

Maybe It was the one Gary Carpenter making cry in the Rains room this pass weekend. I'd be tempted to by it if it would make me paly like Gary.
Heck I have a beat up dirty MSA 12 string I'll sell you for that price _________________ Daniel J. Cormier

Shipping costs are out of sight nowadays. I ship larger packages through my work place at a substantial discount for both shipping and insurance. Ebay and PayPal fees are not helping either with PayPal running almost 4% of the sale unless you declare it as a gift. Then there's just a $5 charge for the service but no buyer warranty agreement. I've use Craiglist more lately and there's local guitars just 30 miles from my house that are a real steal.
I played a Carter starter a few months ago and can't see going that route for anything more than you can quickly resell it for, maybe $350.

Here's a live link to that auction in case anyone needs a good laugh:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370484304278
The cut'n'paste description is fairly accurate although someone might get the idea that they would be buying one of the earlier models built at the Sho-Bud shop with the raised wooden neck and the nice birdseye maple body.
I bought one of the later models with the plastic fretboard and the wood grain contact paper in the late 70's. Maybe I didn't have it adjusted right but I kept snapping off the round hooks on the bridge assy and swapping them around until there were no more left to swap. And then I sold it and bought a Dekley student model instead. Never could figure out how to play it very well (we didn't have YouTube back then. )

P.S. If you look at the seller's other auctions they all seem to be overpriced- like twice as much as they would be worth. Still, he has 4877 satisfied customers or positive auctions or whatever that red star means. I guess it goes to show that P.T. Barnum was right on the money... _________________ www.blueguitar.org

We can scoff at high prices, but it goes both ways.
So called "pickers" will buy up valuable items for a pittance and boast about it.
I see lots of overpriced stuff in stores, but the store owner has overhead and it's his right to set his own prices. It only takes one customer to make a sale.
Items on Ebay can have wildly fluctuating prices, maybe based on seemingly minor criteria (cosmetic condition, accessories and manuals), but sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason (other than timing). Sellers can get inflated ideas about the worth of an item based on a single listing, which may not even have sold.
CL is a whole other story - buyers are sometimes very price conscious (ie cheap) and even want you to deliver to them - unless you price stuff "for quick sale," in which case you get deluged by eager buyers
the range between too cheap and too expensive can be very narrow, I've found
- buying stuff on CL can be tricky, with a whole range of potential pitfalls
The bottom line is that this is free enterprise market captialism at its best/worst.
Caveat emptor, and "if you don't like it, ignore it"
no point sitting around moaning about this item or that one, if you ask me (but it's your choice to do so...) |

It reminds me of yeras ago when I sold real estate. You could go into a neighborhood with almost identical houses and find that all the homes that have sold recently went for about $40,000. Then you talk to an owner about selling his house and he wants $45,000 for his house because he thinks his home is worth more than everyone elses. They forget that buyers have a choice and no one will pay more for something if they can buy a comporable one for less. _________________ "Shoot low boys, the're ridin' Shetlands" |

In the UK eBay site there is a 3 + 1 Maverick priced at the current equivalent of 1,383.71 USD plus shipping. Boy I remember when you couldn't give them away over here at one time. I should have bought every one I could lay my hands on. For some strange reason this guitar hasn't had one bid on it yet. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. The funny thing about the cut and paste item description on ebay is what they left out. Their description starts out with "Sho-Buds answer was the Maverick...." I found the site they stole the text from: http://www.planet.eon.net/~gsimmons/shobud/models.html. If you look at the original article it starts out: "Want a pedal steel guitar for just $400? Sho-Buds answer was the Maverick..."
Hmm... I wonder why they left out that opening sentence... |

A while back, somebody had an old Fender triple neck steel guitar that looked like it had been in a train wreck. The asking price was $15,000. This was on Ebay. _________________ "Shoot low boys, the're ridin' Shetlands" |

A Sho Bud Maverick usually goes for about $500 for a laminate covered model like the one that is the subject of this post. A solid maple will usually go for a bit more, up to about $800 for one in excellent condition with no issues. _________________ "Shoot low boys, the're ridin' Shetlands" |

If you turn them upside down and put wheels on them they make excellent garden wagons. Great for transporting top soil. |
