We have three days of showcases at Layla's Bluegrass Inn on lower Broad during the Fan Fair or the (Rock Music Festival.) Showcases are Wed. through Friday 11 a.m. til 4 p.m. Some of my life long friends from Michigan will be showcasing Wed. 11 til 1 p.m. and Thurs. 11 a.m. til 12 noon. Western Michigan Country Music Legends. Janie Lambert with her beautiful voice who was kind enough to let me be part of her band way back in the sixties. Earl Duzan a pedal steel player (1962 Fender 1000)who does a commendable job on steel, dobro and violin. Their band is called Country Gold and there will be many of my country music friends from the sixties that will be sitting in with the band.
Doug Jernigan will be there Wed. 1:15 till 2:45 playing with Jenna Christine. Mike Jones will be there Thurs. and Fri. the same hours as Doug on Wed. and will also be playing with Jenna Christine. Aaron Kelly, the young man that came in 5th last year on the American Idol will be showcasing Thurs. and Friday 3-4 p.m. Tracey K. Houston with her rock-a-billy band will be showcasing on Thurs. noon til 1 p.m. David Blood and Mixt Company, bluegrass, will be showcasing on Friday from noon til 1 p.m. The Rigney family will be showcasing on Friday from 11 a.m. til noon.
It's really going to be a lot of fun folks. Lot's of great steel guitar, rock-a-billy, country and bluegrass. Five hours each day. I am really looking forward to it. I set it up but do it only to make it possible for some of these artists to have a place to showcase during the big festival. This will be the tenth year that Layla has let us use her place on E. Broadway to showcase some great music. I don't make a penny but I do make sure that I will enjoy the Fan Fair with some Classic Country, modern Country, rock-a-billy and a couple great bluegrass bands.
Thanks and hope to meet some of you there. The dates are: June 8, 9 and 10th......Wed: 11 a.m. til 4:00 and the same on Thurs. and Friday.
