I do this a lot--adding steel to commercial recordings that do not already have.
I wonder if it would be illegal, or in any way improper to upload such a recording to a sight like Soundcloud--like what we've been doing with Johan's "Steel Challenge".
Any thoughts? |

I am not sure about the right to upload a tune that someone else has but the Late John Hughey did let me use some of his sound tracks only if I didn't sell the songs and only used them for listening. I also would like to know where this post was at that had someone letting us use their song to play a steel part for? I found it once but have not been on in a while and I can't find it now.RS _________________ Franklin D10 Stereo - 8 and 6 - Black Box-Zum Encore 4 and 5 Nashville 400,Session 400, DD3 for delay ,also Benado Effects pedal.

I see a song, (the writing, production and recording) as someones personal belonging. This person has all the rights to give permission or can refuse to use it, even to make his song public.
The song 'Time's gonna fly' belongs to Tom Cerrigione.
I asked him permission to use it, before I posted it.
I think I did it the right and legal way.

Hi Bill, I think when it should be for sale on a CD or Itunes or so, there would other parties involved to give permission. That was not in this case.

That's not true. Whether a recording is currently for sale or not has no bearing on copyright law. I have a lot of songs copyrighted that I've never sold, and I'd consider legal action if anyone used them without my permission. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P.
