Just got word this AM (courtesy Rick Jenkins) that Russ played last night at the CAAS in Nashville....evidently one of the great Chet Atkins clones by the name of Anderson assembled a group of players to replicate the Chet album titled Superpickers. Weldon was on the original, but according to Rick, Russ nailed all the signature licks to a T. BTW , he played a white JCH. Those of you in southwestern Missouri will be able to experience Russ and his sweetie Laney, at Chief Sarcoxie Days, Sarcoxie, Mo on Sept 10. Sarcoxie lies just south of I-44 and about 15 miles east of Joplin. Be there.

And if you are in the Southeastern US, Russ and Laney will be at The Southern Steel Guitar Convention on August 15th and 16th. If you have a lot of bucks You can also catch them in St Louis labor day weekend at the ISGC Convention.

The Best Idea is to attend all of these 3 events and get a real good Russ & Laney fix.

Another Shameless attempt to Promote two Terrific Folks.

It's ironic,,,,this thread that is,,,,I was fixin' to start a post about Russ and Laney Hicks this morning and saw this one. So, I'll just try to say what I wanted to say here. And I do mean TRY because that's about as close as a dummy like me could get. I just don't know or possess in my limited knowledge and vocabulary the proper and best words to describe Russell and Laney Hicks.
Folks, these two people are truley a "God send" to the rest of the people walkin' the face of the earth. Their individual and combined talents go far beyond great. Their vision of what human beings should be like and how to share that with other human beings is absolutely the benchmark for the rest of us to copy. The world is a much better place because of these two wonderful people.
My wife, Toni, and I just had the priviledge of spending 5 days in the home and hospitality of Russ and Laney. I just do not have the proper words to describe what a wonderfull experience that was for us. Great don't even come close!
Love, friendship and sharing is what their beautiful home and lifestyle is built upon.
May God continue to bless these two wonderful people. About all I know to say is I love you and thank you for being who and what you are.

Rev. Bowman.....amen! preach it, brother...yeah, get down wit yo bad self. I wholeheartedly agree with Bobby and I only know them from a distance. To me , they are a breath of fresh air....to borrow from Johnny Bush, they are a diamond in a field of cubic zirconias otherwise known as 'country music'....these folks are for real...totally non pretentious, genuine, down to earth and blessed with God given talent and a willingness to share it. What a team!!

Well, one thing I do believe deep inside me is that every single time we're together with people we mutually care about and love, we get a glimpse of what God intended life on this earth to be, and what Heaven must certainly be like. Russ and I are grateful for the genuine Friends this steel guitar community has brought to us. Thanks for the kind words, and most of all... for the love.

I want to jump in here and say that I also agree with Bobby. The Hicks family is talent beyond words Bobby. And I don't just mean pickin and singing. They are exactly what this country needs a whole lot more of. "A CLASS ACT" !!!

Love Ya'll Russ and Laney.

I was on the front row at both CAAS concerts and on Sat night they didn't put him in the Mains until the last song. Wade Romonosky was near the control booth and he said he could hear his Webb fine but those people 100 yards back probably thought he was just sit'n there.

Hey JJ...serves me right for taking 20 strings to a 6 string convention...BTW, I heard a player a few acts before we played that I absolutely could not believe....I never caught his name but he played with two more guys,(bass and rhythm), and for what he played I've never heard better..Tjango R. and then some...I think he was German...if anyone knows who he was let me know...also if he has CDs available...as Charlie McCoy would say "THAT DOG CAN HUNT".
