I will be teaching a E9th and C6 Seminar at the International Steel Guitar Convention this year. The seminar will be on Friday, Sep 3rd in the Jefferson Room. The seminar will start at 9am and go until 4pm. Lunch hour break will be 12 noon to 1 pm. The objectives of the course for the E9th portion of the seminar will include scales, the forward roll and how to use it, and good practice habits. The objectives for the C6 portion will include scales, good practice habits and how to build a solo. The C6 portion will be the last hour of the seminar. What you will need to bring to the seminar: Your steel guitar, pac-a-seat, music stand, and stereo headphones. You will receive a CD of the seminar plus a CD of rhythm tracks of songs we will cover in the course. You also will receive a book that will contain the day's lesson and tabulature.
This course is recommended for intermediate to advanced players. Cost of the seminar is $60.00 per person. Mail check or money order to Scotty's Music 9535 Midland Blvd. St Louis, MO 63114. If you have questions regarding the seminar feel free to email me or call me at 615.459.6711.
It is a great honor for me to be teaching this seminar. I do not claim to be the polished professional teacher that Mr. Jeff Newman was but I will do my best to teach you all that I know.

Mega dittos Herby Wallace. Plus a nicer gentleman you will never find.
May Jesus richly bless Doug for sharing of his incredible talents. And may he bring years of joy for all those fortunate students who attend his classes.
Doug is truly one of the all time greatest steel guitarists. He wrenches the most infinite tone out of any string he picks. Few on this earth can touch him. I applaud and love him for what he is doing,

Thanks Herby and Carl for the kind words.
I realize teaching this seminar is a big
undertaking, but I will do the very best I can to give the class as much information
as I can .

Doug, I was privilidged to see you again at the Texas show this year. I spoke briefly and you were very kind and that means a lot to me. When you played that Saturday night I was in shock, I had forgotten how great a player you are. The talent and skills you have will carry over into teaching as well. I know the shoes you will be filling but if there is one steeler who can teach I would bet on you. I wish you much success in the seminars. Oh Yeah, I look forward to seeing you play again soon. |

Hello again Doug:
Good to hear you will be in St. Louis this
year. Doug just recently put on a seminar
here in Spokane Wash. Every one who attended were greatly pleased. Doug is a fine teacher, and
one of the greatest pickers I have ever met. Thanks again Doug. Rubbing elbows with you is always a blessing. Darrell Klein |

Congrats Doug! You're a great choice for the job.
My schedule does not permit me to attend the ISGC, but if you do the seminar in Dallas I'll be there. |

Doug, is there any chance one of the steel guitar mfr's might have some steels available to "rent" for the seminar?
I would sign up for the seminar in a heartbeat if I didn't have to fly my steel in. |

Tony, I am sure there should be either a manufacturer or individual at the show who would let you borrow a steel for the seminar.
In the mean time I will check with Scotty.
Thanks again,
Doug |

Billy: Thanks for the inquiry regarding the seminar in St Louis. Usually the vendors will have their steel guitars on display or in playing rooms. It would be difficult to say if their would be availability of a vendor's steel guitar for your usuage. Usually in every seminar that I conduct there may be one or two that prefer not to bring their equipment and just utilize the seminar tablature books. New for this seminar in addition of the tablature books are the CD's of the course I will be giving each attendee. It is up to you to decide if that would be an alternative that you would like to try instead of bringing your steel. I prefer to teach students with their steel so I can individualize as much as possible. Ultimately it is the student's choice..
Thanks for the interest!
Doug
