So one of the speakers went out on my 74 Twin and am in the process of getting it re-coned. The company doing the re-cone is using the JBL kit but the tech is telling me that JBL says I should have the speaker recharged, due to its age. Is this absolutely necessary? JBL is saying it will cost 100 dollars for the recharge and I'm already forking over enough money for the re-cone itself.

Any and all advice is appreciated guys.

John

Re-gaussing is not a bad idea, particulalry if the speaker has ever been subjected to physical shock, i.e. dropping, getting clobbered by other heavy, hard objects, etc. - that being said if you were happy with its performance before it blew it is not a necessity and if it is a matched set you could do the recone now and save up to re-gauss both of them at some later date when it is more convenient for your wallet.
