I first heard this medley on the second Cheap Suit Serenaders LP back in the seventies. I was an instant Suits disciple. What I have discovered since is that people either love this stuff, or considerate the enthusiast to be somewhat low-brow in their musical taste. On The Beach At Waikiki,My Own Iona, and Maui No La Ka Oi. At the time I did not know it was Alan Dodge's contribution to the band's repetoire, although I should have guessed it when listening to his funky, rattling bottleneck solo. Since then Alan has moved-it-on-over to tricone, put in a key shift, and added a willowy female vocal, all of which are excellent developments that can be heard either in this video or the Sundodgers Album "Under The Sun." Is that Robert Armstrong on second tricone?

This past year's Northern California Ukulele Festival was the first time I didn't see Mr. Dodge and his Sundodgers leading a kanikapila. If you click on the associated link on that same page for Na Moku Eha from 2008, you'll see me on the left side playing along. It's a lot of fun, even with four tricones at once. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Brad,Na Moku Eha is another favorite of mine. It is wonderful what can be rung (wrung) out of an 8 bar hula. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

Now I have my doubts It may have been Robert Armstrong playing the original bottleneck solo on Blue Goose LP 2019. Can this be confirmed? _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |
