Hey Marty,
If you have a good machine shop close by, they can shorten them.
When I had all my Emmon's, I had a machine shop shorten all mine.
They did a perfect job on everything and even rethreaded the rods.
The total cost was only $35 for each steel guitar.

Thanks Carl, I considered that but I have some concerns. Maybe I'm over thinking it so I'd appreciate your feedback.

-removal and reinstalling the leg inserts without damaging the leg-tubes

Marty,
Don't let anyone cut the legs with a tubing cutter.
That will leave marks, and will also leave a burr on
the inside, and they probably won't be able get the
threaded ends back in without the legs splitting.
They removed the inside of the legs and put a rod in
the outside portion to knock out the threaded pieces.
The threaded parts were put in a freezer, while they
cut the leg pieces off in a lathe. Then they heated
the end of each leg and pressed the threaded part in.
They also cut and threaded the rods in tne lathe with
it running very slow. Everything turned out perfect
and looked like brand new, without any marks at all.
The whole process only took about an hour, and was a
lot cheaper than buying just 1 new leg.

Hi Marty: I have recently acquired a low milage 2008 SD-10 Zum with 1 inch shorter legs. I think we can swap the legs. The rods I have my doubts but the legs should work to our mutual benefit. I'll check with John Widgren to see if they are the same basic animal. I'll get back to probably later tonight. Just hold off on any cutting. Anyone else know for sure if we can swap Emmons LG for Zum without detriment to either instrument??? al

Hi Al,
The legs will fit without any problems.
I tried Zum rods on my Emmons and they
were a larger diameter and the threads
were larger as well, so they didn't fit.
That's why I went to a good machine shop.
