When you wish to buy a second hand guitar be aware that you might get a lemon. I know a guitar player who decided to learn steel so he bought a MSA Semi Classic sight unseen. He asked me to look at it for him because it was unplayable. I had a look at it and told him to contact Bob Simmons of Simmons Guitars. I know Bob can make it like new. I've seen some of his work.

If you are thinking about learning steel do not buy anything sight unseen. Get help from someone who knows what's what. Perhaps a visit to Bobbie Seymour would be in order.

words to live by...

when buying an introductory steel as someone who knows nothing of the history and development of the pedal steel it's best to consult with someone who does know first.

mistakes that can be disapponting are:
limited pull/release changers
cable pull and no knee levers
old fashioned nuts with no rollers
non-adjustible legs
too few knee levers..try for 3 at least
....unless you are intelligent enough to work within limited fields, which 'can' be done if you are musically inclined to start with.
