Trying to set-up and TUNE my Sho-Bud Super Pro D-10 8&6 to the standard Emmons set-up, but on RKL, I only have 2 pull rods available at this time on RKL for the E9 neck, and it calls for 3, so what would you recommend?

Only have 2 rods to connect 2 of the following;

*1st string F# to G#
2nd string D# to E
*6th string G# to F#

*I already have the C6 neck 3rd string C to B hooked up to RKL as well.

*Should I buy a rod and nylon nut and add the 3rd?
Or is one of the pulls not as useful?

*Tuning- do I tune some pulls before tuning open, or open first, then tune pulls?

*Does it matter which hole you use of the 3 raises and 2 lowers?

Is there a set-up manual for these rascals?

Picture of set-up so far.

What three changes are you talking about on your RKL? Are you counting the 3rd string lower (C to B) on the C6th neck?

Tommy, there's a topic right down the page below this one called, "copedent, E9,C6" that has a chart posted by b0b. This may be something that would help you with your setup.

That copedent doesn't have 2nd string D# to E.
Is that not important? Question

Some people raise the second string with the first, but overall I think there are more who don't raise the second than there are who do raise it. It's a matter of what you want your setup to do. Some raise the first and 7th to G, some lower the 6th by itself. There is really no "set in stone" standard.

For the RKL lever, the 1st string raise and the 6th string lower are most basic and common. A third pull for that lever, such as the 2nd string raise, is nice to have but not as basic or common as the first two pulls. Adding more pulls will add tension to the lever which is something to consider If the RKL lever is also doing pulls on the C6 neck. The chart that b0b posted on the E9/C6 thread that Bob Tuttle mentions is a good basic setup. Different people will place additional pulls on various levers to suit their tastes. Even with the basic two pulls for RKL, some people will raise the 1st string to G, some to G#; some will lower the 6th string to F#, some instead will use it to raise the 7th string to G, etc. The 2nd string raise to E is cool; it's nice to have it on the same lever as the 1st string raise to G# as they are both unison raises with strings 3 and 4, but you don't need the change and you don't need to have it on that particular lever if you have a better place to put it. I think beyond the basic 8x4 setup that b0b posted it gets into each player's thinking and approach to the E9 neck and also practical mechanical issues as levers are shared between both necks, and having arrangements that allow players to be able to engage certain combinations of levers. Even the LKV lever that most people use to lower string 5 and 10 is up for grabs. With 8x6 you've got a few extra pedals beyond the basic 8x4 to play with. One of the great things about having a Fender cable guitar is that its ease of setup changes allows it to become a tuning lab for you to try out changes before you commit to making the changes on a rodded guitar.

What do you mean by "it calls for 3"? I would just have it so the RKL lowers the second string to a D, and lowers the 9th string to C#. That's what's on mine. On my old MSA, I only had the second string lower to D on that lever. The second string lower is more useful than the 9th string lower, if you have to choose.

Found 2 copedents that recommend;

RKL TO E9 NECK
1st string F# to G#
2nd string D# to E
6th string G# to F#

and C6 neck 3rd string C to B as well.
