Today I listened to " In the graden " on Utube by Paycheck. I realized how much I appreciated this amazing talent. I shared a venue with him in 59 he was pretty young then but outstanding on his vocals.
As a musicican, song writer , singer and all around musicical talent he was in a class by himself.
If someone could find this gospel number on Utube and post the link I would be forever grateful. Thanks

Old Bud

In my opinion NOTHING beats the early years of paycheck's music - both country & gospel.
There are more of his listed on that page also.
Enjoy ...Ron

Hey Ron:
Thank you for posting that link.
We were working the E.T Midnight Jamboree in February of 59. He and Darrel McCall had just come to town I believe. I discussed this with Darrel a few years ago in Dallas. We had a couple of the Wilburn brothers ( I think George and Leslie, on bass and fiddle ) in the band.
Paycheck ( Donny Young )sang a song about The Mountain Top and it blew us all away. Darrel recorded it a few years ago also.
How fortunate for the music industry that these two great musicians came to Nashville.Paycheck was apretty good pedal steel picker and a good bass player also.

Hey Willis we all miss Paycheck. I know his Step Farther (Sam ) Cappy Paxton Who still lives in Cape Cod Massachusets.I met him back in 1999 at the Indian Ranch in Webster Massachusets. Cappy told us a lot about Johnny Paycheck and he was very hurt over Johnny's death. It is a small world. Cappy's first name is Sam as is mine and his wife's name is Anna and my wife's name is Anna.We had a lot of good times with Cappy and the Rhode Island Country Horizons country music association back then in 1999to 2004.

Hey Sam:
Thanks for posting that info. I guess with the passing the last few weeks of some of our great musicians it has kind of hit home with me. I am now in my 78th year and have time to reflect on all the good times, and some that were not so good too.
I still keep pickin and singing and sometimes I feel like that " Old Violin ". It has been a great ride though and I wouldn't change a thing. Have a great weekend.

Hay Old Bud,

I Ran Across Your "Missing Paycheck" Thread, & Thought That I Would Chime In, If You Don't Mind?.

MR. Paycheck and His Band Spent A Weekend In Our Town as The Feature Act, Sometine In The 80's and My House Band Opened The Shows For Him.

He Was A Really Great Down To Earth Guy, We Got To Have Breakfast On His Bus with Him on Sat & Sun Mornings (Cigs,(He Had A Ashtray Every 10 Feet In The Bus & A Lit Cig In Every One!,lol), & Jack Daniels), Laughing

It Was A Very Great Time With Him & Members Of His Band As I Remember, Question

Just Thought That I Would Share This Story With You..There Is More To The Story, But I Can't Put It Here Laughing, (You Know "What Happens In Kansas - Stay's In Kansas") Embarassed Laughing

I'm So Glad To See That You Are Still Picking & Having Fun After All These Years!, & May You For Many More Exclamation

Take Care, Blessings, "Keep On Pickin", From The Land Of OZ-♫Howie-"The Wizard" Whoa!

A friend of mine brought me a CD to listen to the other day. It is Robby Turner's "Steel Country" That CD is a masterpiece and song #4 is what I think is the greatest song ever recorded... Night Life. But it even gets better, the song is sung by Johnny Paycheck and Willie Nelson. And without surprise, Johnny took his signature vocals to a new high. You can tell that he and Willie are having fun with this song and they are doing it for Robby. I just keep hitting "replay" as soon as it's over... again and again and again. Yes, I too miss Johnny. He was and always will be a legend.

Hi Willis I have some sad news for you Johnny Paycheck's Step farther Cappy (Sam) Paxton past away a few weeks ago. Now Cappy is with Johnny again and Cappy must be helping Johnny out again. Cappy was a promoter of country music in the North East and a good one too.

If you're on Facebook, check out Jeb Clayton's stuff.
He posts many old country songs daily and there has been a lot of Johnny's material lately.
