Hi folks. I thought some of you might be interested in the new clip I put up on youtube. It will come up if you go there and type in Simon Berz and Dave Easley. Simon is a very gifted percussionist from Switzerland who invents a lot of his own instruments made from discarded objects. A bedspring with a pickup on it, a speaker cabinet with strings and a pickup mounted right in front of the speaker (so feedback is a given), and a radio through an effects box are a couple of examples of things he's made. He came through town a while back and played a lot of improvised duets, trios, quartets and quintets with various New Orleans musicians at the Zeitgeist Theater.
In this clip, a 9 and a half minute segment from a 25 minute improv, he's using a lot of the regular trap set sounds but many of his instruments will be featured in the documentary he's filming. This segment is probably even a little further out in left field than some of the tunes that my buddy, Jim Stahlhut wrote. It might be too far out for some psg players but I think some will like it.
I hope some of the more conservative people will like my dobro youtubes. I'll make a separate post about them. |

Cool Dave, enjoyed that.Simon is a viby guy with some great ideas, you two had some synergy going on there. Why don't you put up the rest of it so we can see how it ends. Does he get the girl ? Does Ole Yeller live? Do the Yankees win the Daytona 500?
Cheers, Shane. |

Ha, ha. Well, not to give away the ending, but I think Simon already had the girl, the lady cinematographer filming his documentary, that is. I didn't even ask, but I think they're a couple. But I'll ask him if he minds if I post the whole twenty-five minute piece which got broken up into 3 segments on my cheap video recorder. I'll leave it up to him. He might not want to let too much of the music out before his documentary comes out, but the people who will watch that on Swiss TV and the people who watch my youtubes probably aren't the same people. |
