Hey everyone,

I had the pleasure of seeing George Strait/Reba last night in Cincinatti. They both put on incredible performances, and funny enough I caught myself watching the steel player of each band more than the performer (hah)

Anyways, when Ace in the Hole was playing, and a close up of Mike's hands appeared on the screens, I could've swore I saw him using a square dobro style bar, rather than a bullet nose bar.

I mean, it looked to me to have an indentation for grip and even looked square at the nose. I found this pretty interesting, as I've never heard or tried playing steel using this type bar.

Does anyone have any experience playing with this type bar? I have a Shubb SP 2 bar that I might try this afternoon after hearing Mike's playing last night! dang!

I use a bar kinda like that. Mine's got grooves in it, and it ain't round all the way. I think it was made by a company called Sacred Steel. I got it at the ISGC in St. Louis in 2003.

Thanks Brandon. I saw the George/Reba/Leann show 2 weeks ago and I thought I noticed that one of Mike's bars was nonstandard. Looked like my 6-string Stevens bar.

My girlfriend got a charge out of the clutter between Mikes front and back neck...

Thank goodness the video director was "steel" aware.

Bruce Bouton and Randy Beavers certainly rocked too.!

That tour has been going on a while!I seen the same show in Tacoma Wa last Mar (it was Reba's birthday and I think it was the 28th),I use a Scheerhorn reso bar when I play dobro for pull offs/hammer ons.Doug Jernigan comes to my area about twice a year and uses my steel guitar, dobro and even my bars (JBS for steel).I offer my scheerhorn as well to use for dobro,he politely says the bullet style BJS will do for both and he does amazing pull offs/hammer ons with it(i have tried with no luck)

When not traveling with George, The Ace In The Hole Band, are sometimes appearing on their own. They will be at Mo`s Place, Katy, Texas (west of Houston) on 3-19-11. They were there not long ago.

I've seen Robert Randolph use a bar similar to the old "Stevens" on you tube videos
