Since I bought my new Fender Steel King , three years ago, it has been in the shop about four times. It was making gargly sounds and output was lowered. The first couple times they couldn't make it act up. Then I took it elsewhere and they went over it and it was OK for a while. Now sometimes the reverb is barely coming through and if you wack the top of it with your fist, it comes back. My confidence in this amp is shattered. Has anyone out there had similar experiences? Thanks ,Ron |

My experiences were quite similar to yours. I eventually had it completely gone over and rebuilt by Fender repair guys and sold it. There are some guys on the forum that swear by them. I mostly swore at mine ! _________________ Bob |

Fender had reliability problems with that amp and others. The input jack was soldered yo the PCB and would work loose over time and become intermittent. Very poor design quality. Chinese. If they were made in America like they're supposed to be it would be a better amp. |

Ron this is most likely the input jack. Forumite Bob Knetzger posted about this:
I had an problem with my FSK input jack-- went sloppy in the middle of a big concert gig and made a LOUD buzz/crackle as it "make-and-break"ed the connection with the plug.
My easy fix was to use one of those cords with the self-tensioning plugs. (small metal compression springs around the plugs's sleeve contacts--very positive connection.)
The cable Bob is talking about is the Planet Waves cable with the compression springs:
Currently being sold on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280590165722&category=47075&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
Using this cable has allowed me to make peace with my FSK and use it without failure. _________________ Thom Ferman

Thank you for all the comments. I'll give the plug a try also. Ron _________________ Emmons SKH Le Grande, '73 Fender P/J bass, Tick tack bass, Regal high strung, USA Nashville 112. |
