Here's a player's Stringmaster D-8, 24-1/2" scale at a player's price. It began life as a T-8 and lost the lower neck sometime between the launch of Sputnik and twenny-ought-nine. The jack (original jack would have been on the front of the now-missing original-lower neck) is now top-mounted between the volume and tone knobs (now-lower neck) and the neck-selector switch is a toggle sitting atop a white plastic trapezoid plate (upper neck).

When I got it last year, I discovered that the front pickups were missing on each neck. The voids under the front pickup covers have been filled with Seymour Duncan Antiquitys and everything put back together by Jim Palenscar. It plays and sounds like it should.

I don't recall any date clues like pencil marks or pot dates from when I first got it and discovered the missing pickups. Best guess: late 50s, early 60s.

Looks are a different matter. This has been repainted brown, with various chips and fills and attempted cover-ups. It looks as if the second paint job was applied directly on top of the original finish (judging from the chips.) It has been converted from four legs to three. (If it were me, I'd look at getting some recessed flanges with a wider angle. This sits just a tinch upright for my tastes.) Legs are included. Leg bag by Glad. No decal on front. This comes in an oversize brown tolex ('60 or later) Fender pedal steel case.

Fine-sounding Stringmaster at a Deluxe price.

$750 + shipping + PayPal in the lower 48 -- less than I have in it.

How's the tone sweep? I'm needing great boo-wah capabilities.
