Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has used or tried to use the Roland GK-3 divided pickup on a lap steel.
This pickup works with the Roland GR-55 guitar synth or the Boss GP-10. I would really like to give the GR-55 a try.

Everything on a lap steel is flat. Nut, neck, bridge, strings.
The GK-3 is radiused a bit for a regular guitar.
Roland does say the pickup is moderately adjustable for different radiused necks.
So my question is can the GK-3 be used or modified to be used on a lap steel guitar.
I have seen a few videos of them on a lap steel but couldn't get a good look at the pickup installation.
I would really love to give this thing a try. It looks very interesting to me and would love to experiment a bit with sounds.
Thank you and have a good day.

Interesting thread.... Scroll down to post #8 for detailed installation pic:

And, I think this may be the link to the Mike James video which is no longer available using the link in the original past.., either that, or it's an updated one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kbc0tuDAAvI

Have fun!

Hi Lance, thanks for the reply.

That old thread you posted led me to a forum called VGUITAR
which deals with the guitar synths, pickups etc. That will be a big help.
I've seen Mike James video about 427 times but can't tell if he modified the pickup to keep
the individual pickups equidistant from their appropriate strings.
My problem is that I don't know if the pickup can be bent to make it flat and remove the built in radius.
Although it appears to work in the videos quite well.

Thanks for the links. They will help a lot.
Have a good day.

Larry
