I just spent the day with Eddie to have him cut my guitar down 1 inch and put my beloved PF2's back in. I had ordered my guitar with some extra height which turned out to be a mistake on my part and was effecting my accuracy. Eddie did a great job and even got me out of the shop in time for my gig.
Thanks Eddie...
Anyone interested in a pair of 705's?

Thanks Robbie for the coments. I'm happy that your guitar turned out the way you wanted it.

Eddie's gift for steel guitar mechanics and his playing are both priceless.

Robbie, here is my honest opinion as a friend: You are an extremely talented person, and one of the best steel guitar players in the world. With that said, with those 705's your tone was dead, even with a Hilton pedal. I am fighting a similar situation with a guitar the manufacturer refuses to put single coil pickups on. This particular guitar will never sound exceptional with a humbucking pickup. Also fighting a dead situation with a different brand of guitar that has single coil pickups. The problem with that guitar is the pickups are 31 years old. I am thinking the magnets have lost some of their sparkle. I am going to try and install some new single coil pickups on that guitar. I am not knocking single coil pickups, because I have a George L TW on the little Emmons I played at the Show, and everyone brags on the sound of it. Every guitar and every situation is different. Like you Robbie, I am going through a phase where I am not happy with a couple of my guitars. Maybe this will make you feel a little better. Eddie Lane is also doing all the work on my guitars. Eddie is a good man.

I know there are plenty guitars that sound real good with the 705's. The PF2's just make this particular Mullen come alive. The sustain and response is much better.

I don't understand why all manufactures of steel guitars have not gone to a standard of inter-changeable, (quick change), pick up instalation. There is a PU that will bring the best out of every guitar...I just wish it was easier to test them out. I think my search is over with this guitar. But Mr. Ed is standing by just in case!

Robbie, I may be losing my mind. Last night I fought "tone demons" again. At my Saturday night picking job I decided on taking my Emmons with the TW pickup, along with an old Nashville 400. Normally I play through a Nashville 1000. In years past I had never been able to get the sound out of a Nashville 400 that I liked. To make a long story short, I wound up turning tone knobs all night long on the Nashville 400, and never could get a decent sound. With that said, last year I saw Jim Losseburg playing an old Emmons push pull "wrap around" through a old Nahville 400--without any effects-- and Jim got one of the best sounds I have ever heard. Turning the knobs on the old Nashville 400 all night last night took all the fun out of pickin. Like I said, tone demons are driving me crazy--or maybe I am just getting too particular. Then again--why settle for a sound that is not what it could be. It can make a person think he is losing his mind.

I've had 705's in my Fessenden for about a year now. Since I've had them in there I've always thought that one sounded a lot better than the other(the one in the E9 spot was very midrangy and not as sweet). I disconnected the extra wires coming from the pickup and turned it into a single coil. It sounds noticeably better and there is almost no hum, even recorded with it since and no complaints from the engineer. So... It worked out well for me in case someone was thinking about trying it.

Both coils may not be hooked up on my George L TW, because it does hum and it is supposed to be a humbucking pickup. I need to check that out. Thanks Brett.

All I can say is that I have the BL 705 in my SD-10 Rittenberry, Hilton Pedal and playing through a Walker system; it don't get no better that.
I haven't found any better as they say, "it's tone to the bone"!
Robbie if you come to Dallas, come by the Rittenberry booth for a chat.....
