No, it's not wether Fords are better than Chevys. I was reading a post about the E66 pickup height by Jim Lindsey in which he has the E66 closer to the little strings and farther away from the big strings. He had several respond that agreed with him. On my guitars, and two of them are different brands, I cannot lower the pickup hardly at all until it is sitting down on top of part of the changer support structure. About two quarters thickness and it is bottomed. One of them is bottomed about the same time it is adjusted to the right distance even when level. Does this ruin your tone or does it bother at all? Some guitars have some foam under the pickup. My pickups are bolted to a plate that is supported by three screws with springs in between the plate and the top of the neck. Does the pickup, pickup anything besides the magnetic inpulses from the strings?

That depends on the pickup. Some pickups are more microphonic than others, and can pick up all kinds of extraneous noises.
