Does anyone understand the adjustments to the Excel cabinet drop compensators? Not the latest but the last model with the tuners on the left? Email back and forth not solving the question.
I miss you Don Curtis....

Subject: Cabinet drop adjustment?
Since Don Curtis’s death I do not have anyone to explain how the cabinet drop adjustment can be made. They do not seem to be doing anything at all.
Can you explain how to adjust the three brass adjusters? I have the 1st see saw universal 12 that I bought from Scotty’s 2 years ago. I was also the person to convince Don to order his guitar with 2 see saw devices.
I love my guitar…. Any help would be appreciated.

David,
Thank you for patronage Superb 12.
The brass adjuster is stopped near pullor color. It suitably adjusts it. The pedal becomes heavy.
Mitsuo,

So the adjustment to the brass adjuster (on A,B,C, pedal) is made to pull on the plate (on the right side ) that are be attached to the string key plate? From: Fujii.Mitsuo -----Yes. It is very difficult to see what is happening below.
I see 12 black screws at various angles on the plate.
Are they for adjustment for each string? Do you have a drawing that shows how this works? Or step by step method for adjustment?

I truly think this is one of the finest guitars made. Any help out there ? Bill Stafford ? C Dixon?
Thank you in advance...

I have a Excel manual that may help.....I can't say I really understand it. It's for an older model but may apply to your guitar. It's in pdf format which is not supported by the Forum for posting....send me an email and I'll email it to you

Got your email. I will respond to your enquiry in this PM concerning your post on the forum.
The brass adjusters are to compensate for strings that lower in pitch that are NOT pulled, when other strings are raised in pitch that ARE pulled on the same pedal.
Example is the 1st string lowering when you engage the A and/or B pedals. Another is the 6th string dropping when engaging the A or C pedals.
The adjustment is as follows:
Using a tuner, ajust your open strings and raises on a given pedal.
2. Then note the drop (if any) on the above strings.
3. Adjust the brass tuner on THAT pedal crossbar to bring the flatted string back up to pitch.
That is all there is to it.
The following is how it works:
1. When you operate a pedal it moves a bellcrank that is connected to a rod that is connected to a serious of "step down" bellcranks and rods all the way back to the plate that the keyless tuners are screwed into.
2. The step down provides a 20-1 step down so the movement of the plate is 20 times LESS than the crossbar moves that is attached to the pedal. In other words it is barely noticable OR felt due to the large step down.
3. The plate pivots on a pin near where the roller nuts are on the top of the guitar. But it is barely perceptable; since it moves such a small amount. BUT it DOES move enough to counter any cabinet drop once the brass ajuster is adjusted as above.
That is how it works.
Incidently the 12 screws you pointed to in the photo are the bottoms of the 12 keyless tuners that reside on the top of the plate. They have nothing to do with any of the above.
It is the plate that moves. Obviously ANY thing attached to the plate moves of course.
If you have any further questions dear brother, please do not hesitate to ask,
May Jesus bless you,
c.
