I'm opening a concert at Berklee in a few weeks and they want me to play a classic pedal steel instrumental along with a mandolin player. I could use some suggestions for the tune to play.
Thanks,
Mike |

Bud's Bounce would show them what the pedals do. |

Yeah, Billy, and have the mandolin player do the Tiny Moore ride ala Bobby Garret's version. |

If "classic" translates to "recognizable", I think you're down to Sleepwalk or Steel Guitar Rag. |

Say Mike, I would suggest Lilydale, Maidens Prayer, Neosho Waltz by Tom Brumley, Twilight Time, not a known steel guitar instrumental, but one that would show the versatility of the instrument for pop songs, I Just Destroyed the World by Willie Nelson, one of my favorite melodys.
Hope this helps some. Would love to know which one you select.

Agree with Earnest. Bud's Bounce is probably the best classic pedal steel tune to show them. Sleepwalk and Steel Guitar Rag are classics but more associated with nonpedal steel. Either that or go for "At E's" and blow their minds. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

I like the idea of Bud's Bounce. Here's the promo for the show in case that helps.

If you're opening then something uptempo and lively
would be appropriate I would think?
