Jerry Byrd hated this kind of burlesquing of the instrument. I have to admit, I've always kind of liked it! Early National guitar there.

And then there's Basil (is there room in the steel world for two basils?)

I agree. Those 'old tymers' had a style not heard these days...always interesting. When I saw the title, I thought the "Basil" was going to be our good friend BAZ ! ha! (Not likely) Wink

When my kids were little I remember doing similar sound effects riffs/stories for them .... "Then the train pulled into the station.. here's the whistle ...but there was a ghost on the train ... whooooo, etc." Ralph Kolsiana once demonstrated his chicken cluck technique for me using the volume knob. It was pretty convincing.

What's kind of cool in a novel way is that we get to see a player use a flat bar. Sam Ku West played with one of these and personally he is one of my favorites. Love his vibrato and touch. Maybe it has something to do with it? I'll be at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree again for my 5th year... I've never seen anyone use a flat bar. I like these old videos! Thanks Andy.
