Could any one tell me how the Crossover’s pickups were wired and switched when shipped from the factory?
I acquired a Crossover last year with single-coil pickups (late-60’s Sho~Bud, two leads each, no center tap). One lead from each pickup connects to a double-throw single-pole toggle switch, with the other lead from each pick-up tied to ground at the output jack. One position on the switch selects the E9 pickup, the other the C6, with the center position combining the E9 and C6 in parallel. There is a second opening in the chassis next to this switch that is unused (filled with a round plastic plug). There is no other filtering or switching circuitry.
I’ve seen photos of other Crossovers, showing a rotary knob in the second opening, but don’t know whether this was another switch or a potentiometer. Also, did the original PUPs come with a center tap (i.e., three leads)? |

Bernard,
Assuming your guitar was not some special order job, it would have originally shipped from the factory with dual coil pickups. If the wiring is original, there should be Red/Blk/WHT wires coming from each pickup.
Look closely for that third wire. Remove the pickups from the guitar and examine closely if need be. I hope you can see the wiring in the picture below. I took these reassembly photos during my Crossover restoration.
The round knob you mentioned was a 3/way switch used to select E neck, C neck, or both necks. As you can see below, there was also a toggle switch to select the desired coil for each pickup.
If I can be of any further assistance, just drop me a line.
Cheers!
