This was at a gig yesterday morning. North Bennington VT Winter Festival; delicious chili bake off; people breaking the ice in the pond to swim. Great gig, big crowd, very smooth and tight pickup band. But it appears the pedal steel player just dropped his cabinet? Or maybe I always play with my eyes shut? Very Happy Laughing Rolling Eyes

That's a great pic! You should crop it and use it for your avatar. Laughing

By the way. Do they actually bake chili up in your part of the world? Shocked

Bake, boil, fry, whatever. Sorry. I'm not much of a cook. But if you like hot spicy food in Texas, you would like it even better when it's 21 below zero with two feet of snow on the ground!

Throughout the 30's, 40's and early 50's Good Piano Accordian players were an integral part of Western Swing and Cowboy bands. On many of recordings using Joaquin Murphy he was trading choruses with excellent Accordian players. There were also some excellent small pop and jazz groupls that teamed up Accordian and Guitars playing some very complex arrangements. Even in more recent years, when the group "Riders In The Sky" added an Accordian to their group, they wounded like a Band rather than just a singing trio with a fiddle player.

i Agree with Chris about no need for a Banjo player.

Yes, actually this woman playing the accordion was really good. She caught all the fast little passing chords on the fly (this was an unrehearsed pickup band) and played some great solos. Plus she had a cheerful pleasant attitude.

I like accordion; we have one in my #1 band and it is always a real crowd pleaser. But this woman (don't know her last name) wasn't any more prepared to look good for this particular photograph than I was...

It wasn't too many years ago when Buck Owens and Dwight Yokum came out with their hit record "Streets of Bakersfield". There was some kind of an Accordian in the Band, and IMHO it made the Record !

What kind of music did you guys play? Maybe you could name a few of the tunes.

That's a great-looking Williams. I recently picked up a little keyless Williams S-10, 400 Series. I love it.

Here's some accordian in a band I play with. Of course the accordian player is the bass player, so I play bass when she plays.

Dan:
What a great sounding Band. Looks like a great little club ! I notice the Dancers were Swing Dancing. When you have good Dancers the Band usually has for fun and plays better. With Line Dancers I used to have just the opposite reaction.

Does anyone ever really like to play for Line Dancing ?
