Seems like I've seen a post somewhere about this issue. I've got a 74 p/p and it's got a crack by the changer on the top side of the guitar, is this a big deal?

My '75 had a crack in about the same place, but it was repaired when the cabinet was refinished several years ago. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

Ben,
I have heard more than once from techs that this is common and not a problem beyond cosmetics, and that there are probably cracks in the same place under mica that you can't see, but on lacquer guitars you can see them. |

Ben, Cliff gave my exact answer. Most of the lacquer pushpulls I have seen have at least one crack behind the changer. There is a small amount of wood there and it is weakened by the changer bolt holes. When I refinish one, I run a table saw blade thru the crack and glue a spline of maple in it and sand it down level.
