I have been lurking around here for a while and finally decided to post now that I have bought my first Pedal Steel.

I played guitar for 30 years and got sick of trying to get pedal steel sounds of them using slides and B benders so I figured it was about time to learn he real thing.

I happen to live an hour from Roy Thomas who I discovered from posts here on the forum. So I drove out to his shop and I can honestly say he is one of the more interesting and nice people I have ever met.

He has been playing steel for 72 years now loves to talk all things steel. We sat there for two hours and he gave me a crash course in how to play and I learned quit a bit about what goes on under the hood of these guitars.

Anyway, when I called him on the phone and told him what I was looking for he said he had just the thing. A used Pedaalmaster he had build for a doctor in FL. years ago. It had never left the docs house and was in great shape. He also said that it was one of the best sounding guitars he had ever made. He even had a name for it, 'Old Maud' I didn't ask but I think this guitar has a few years on it. I read somewhere that he has build over 6ooo guitars and this one is s/n 2794. Not a scratch on it though.

I figured that was just sales pitch till I actually heard it. It was amazing. As good or better than anything I had ever heard on an album and lots better than the steels I have heard in local clubs.

Roy went on to explain why it sounds different. For one the strings are the same width apart, not wider at the bridge and it also has keyless tuners. Whatever it is I can say honestly this is the best sounding guitar I have ever heard in person.

Of course some of that tone was no doubt coming from Roy's hands. After 72 years of playing I expect one would have picked up a few tricks along the way.

Now I gonna get to learning to play so I can take it gigs and switch off my Telecaster for a few songs.

There is a lot to be said for having a pedal steel expert nearby who can provide mechanical advice as well as playing tips as you get started on the instrument, will probably save you hours of frustration.
Looks like a very unique guitar you have, especially the string spacing.
