HELLO FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA-i have an old (1940,s) supro lap steel with very short scale of 19 inch-almost a travel lap!!--just about to string it up and am not sure about gauges which would work best-say with E6th-do i go thicker or thinner for this scale,in comparison to longer guitar? any help will be much appreciated-thanks in advance-dave young

Hi Dave Smile ... the shorter the scale, the fatter the string. John Ely has a great page covering the subject and a handy chart to help. http://www.hawaiiansteel.com/learning/gauges.php
I'd start at the low end of the recommendations and if things feel too loose, up the gauge as needed.
