Is this a maverick? It has 4 knee levers. The seller is unsure of model. I will be traveling far to purchase it and it wouldn't be worth the price its getting asked for if it is indeed a Sho-Bud maverick.
10 string, no pad and he says he bought it used in the 80's, hasent been played in 20 years.
I will try to get more pictures but thats all the info i got.
I am VERY excited to get my first steel and I want to do the best with the little money I have.

Hey Rob, welcome to the Forum...This is NOT a Maverick- it appears(fuzzy photos) to be a mid 70's early Professional, model #6139 before they had decals for the "Professional". Most of these came with only one knee lever from the factory. Mavericks did not have the small step deck that I see in your picture. My guess is it is in the neighborhood of '74 or later. If the pedal bar has room for three additional pedals, it may be a model #6140 which came with six pedals and no knee levers for the C6 tuning.I do not see volume and control knobs on the deck either, which leads me to believe it's a '74 or later. I believe they dissappeared from the deck sometime around '74 and the switch for the p/u moved to the right end plate.
It appears to have the common "Emmons" set up=3+4. E9th tuning. IMO these were great sounding instruments! I have had a Maverick and a 6140 from that era.

Robert, in '73, and '74 these were called Model #6139,The double necks had the decal "The Professional" here's a link to help you decide...

I have brochures from that era clearly showing this...model #6139 and Model#6140 were basically "The Professional" the decals or labels came later.It was soon called the "Pro 1".
Bobbe Seymore (Steel Guitars Nashville)or the folks at Jackson Steel Guitars could probly define or "ID" this even further. The serial numbers are not much help determining the date it was manufactured either!These are tone monsters in my opinion!

It looks like it has the skinny super pro type pedals so it is more likely to be maybe 79-80 ish ! still got the contoured knees though .. definitely a 6139 !
I had one in 78 which had the wider pedals.

Single neck Professional, made between '71 and '73. It's round front, pre-dustcatcher fretboard, no Pro 1 decal, pins in the changer, wide pedals, etc. It's before the advent of "Pro 1" in '74, and after the models with the volume and tone control which were very early '70s and also on the '60s Baldwin models. The undercarriage is either racks or more likely barrels behind pullers. At least that's my take. If we could see the rest of the changer end we could know.
I have a '74 "Pro 1" with the dustcatcher, etc., so it was made before mine for sure. This guitar will sound great.

Thanks for all the help. I went through with the purchase and i'm very happy. Great sounding instrument.
Now I just have to fix the Peavey LTD 400 that came with it and i'll be set!
