One advantage to having the G on the eighth string is that the top six strings are identical to the six string version of C6th:
1. E
2. C
3. A
4. G
5. E
6. C
7. A
8. G _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

I think of 8-string as "6+2", with strings 2-7 being the standard C6 tuning and the 1st and 8th string being open to 'experimentation'. My favorite is:
D
E
C
A
G
E
C
Bb
...so the only G in here is the one on the 5th string _________________ "Play to express, not to impress"

I agree very enthusiastically. And that first string D is very important to me. The first string D is becoming more and more common. I use an A on string 8. Both Bb and A are very common on that last string. I know one fellow who uses C# and C on strings 7 and 8. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |
