Look at the "Links" above and go to the "copedents" section. Lots of tuning options will be presented. Try Buddy Emmons E9th. |

Get some teaching material, Aaron.
It'll help a LOT, all across the board (so to speak)...
Learn basics like: right hand technique, grips & scales & practice those.
Bruce Bouton's video is a good one, & easy to find.
Winnie Winston's book, also.

I recommend Mel Bay's Pedal Steel Method by Dewitt Scott - an oldie but a goodie - it is pretty sequential, starting off with easier, albeit timeworn, songs and then progressing logically - some other teaching materials you might get throw some flashier but trickier stuff at you right away - nice stuff to grow into, but you don't want to get fatally frustrated right off the bat
I also recommend the Right Hand Alpha video by Jeff Newman - I find that rh technique is a huge part of developing on psg (arguably the biggest part)
oh yeah, get yourself a Peterson Strobo flip and mounting bracket ... tuning becomes pretty much a non issue...
just my 2 cents... |

A very good introduction to the 10-string E9th. Click on John's video at the bottom of the page. http://www.steelguitar.com/beginners.html _________________ Sherman L. Willden
It is easy to play the steel guitar. Playing so that the audience finds it pleasing is the difficult act. |
