Couldn't sleep last night so I made this slideshow video to one of the tracks from my 2006 album "Southern Moon Northern Lights", hope you'll enjoy it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0hxnx3YG0I
The reason I couldn't sleep? Waiting for the post office to open so I could rush down and pick up my new Washburn "Historic Reissue" parlor guitar...
Found it cheap on eBay ($350) and as expected it had lots of midrange 'honk', but it didn't come fully alive until I put on an extension nut and tuned it to open-G. Exactly what I hoped for, great little lap slider and a nice addition to my Lazy River weissenborn. _________________ "Play to express, not to impress"

I have always have enjoyed that tune
For those that have never had the chance to experience the northern lights in person, they are absolutely stunning. I lived in Alaska for a while and the experience is forever etched in my brain.
Nice score on the Washburn, looking forward to hearing you play it! _________________ Some misc pics of my hand crafted steels

Thanks so much guys, glad you enjoyed it!
I've fallen completely in love with that little Washburn, it has a huge wide V-profile neck that's perfect for all kinds of slide playing, the width at the nut is exactly the same as the extension nut I put on (never seen that before), and it has surprisingly good volume and sustain for such a small guitar. At the moment I have it tuned to lowbass-G, but since the bass response is rather weak I'll restring it for highbass-G and use it as my "reso without a resonator". _________________ "Play to express, not to impress"

Excellent work as always, Steinar
That is your Weissenborn and not your new Washburn? _________________ If you worry more about the tools your building with than what your building, you'll never get anything Built

Now I know you better Steinar and shared your environment, your music makes a lot more sense to me, looking forward to your next project once you have all thawed out over there. |

Beautiful rich tone from that Weis Steinar and
the perfect emotion and feeling in your playing.
Will look forward to more from time to time.

Thanks guys!
Rickey,- this was recorded in 2005 on my first Lazy River weiss, the 4th built so Rance was still experimenting with the design back then. This one had a shallower body than what's standard for weisses, plus a very large soundhole, and I believe both factors contributed to give it a very focused and 'percussive' tone without sacrificing the warmth. It had something special and I regret selling it....... _________________ "Play to express, not to impress"

Steinar --
As a photographer, and as someone who has only seen the northern lights twice -- once all white, the second time red undulating shafts at the top of the sky, are those colored sections of your slide show "undoctored"?? I was swooning the entire time! And, I'm not generally a swooner -- but sensory overload was too much.
Thanks.

Yes, they're "pure". The Northern lights can be pretty dramatic, as in this photo:
Also check these photos from a recent 'outburst' of Northern Lights over the north of Norway:

I have to say that none of the photos in the video are mine, I live in the south of Norway where this phenomenon is fairly rare... _________________ "Play to express, not to impress"
