Can anyone recommend a good resophonic guitar repair person in the New York city area?

Mark, Bob Jones is one of the best around, but that said, the best always seem to have a long line of people ahead of you. Try this number: 718 965 6786

Here's a Daily News article:

Thanks, Mike. I've had Bob work on my Martins - and he is the best! But I didn't know he did resos.

Mark, what is the nature of the repair? I'm thinking that might be the key to your situation.

Being 3000 miles away I don't know Bob Jones from Adam (but it was a good article) so I defer to Mike, but I can tell you what I have learned over the years about resos vs. "regular" acoustics out here: there are some fine guitar repairmen that don't know much about resonator guitars. At Resosummit IV in Nashville a couple months ago I saw two of the best in action: Tim Scheerhorn and Paul Beard. There are some very subtle things they do to these guitars to bring out their full potential.

It might be a little bit like when you have some sort of inner ear condition and your general practitioner refers you to an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist to get the job done correctly.

If I remember correctly, I've known some folks who used Bob for reso repairs.

It might be worth a drive down to see Beard....

That sounds like a good idea for a road trip. You can visit Gettysburg while you're there...and you may end up coming home with a Beard Mike Auldridge or Jerry Douglas Signature Model guitar! Cool

Paul Beard is one of the best and a great guy also. Mark is right, last time I was there, I came home with a new guitar. If you can't make it to Paul's, here are a couple of other potential options.

Dick DeNeve in Pennellville, NY. Dick is a reso luthier with a very good reputation. He doesn't have a website. Google him to get a contact number.

Greg McKenna in South Windsor, CT. Greg is also a reso luthier also with a very good reputation. His website is here:

Good luck!

Byron Isaacs knows what he is doing with resos in Brooklyn. He is in the band Ollabelle.I can track him down for you if you like. Shoot me an email.

Also Retrofret in Brooklyn might be worth talking to.
