You mean there are no comments on Garth Brooks selling out 9 13,000 seat shows in Nashville in less than 3 hours? We all must be slipping. |

Bruce, you had to bring it up. No doubt Brooks is popular, but his fan base isn't comprised of those who visit here. Until now, I had hoped he was all but forgotten on the Forum. |

I was told that the show he does in Vegas is a one man show. No musicians. Would'nt that be a deal? |

I liked what Garth did early in his career but I didn't care for most of the later stuff. I did like his MTV solo show. Just him and his guitar.
We went to see Trisha last summer and she is great. She never mentioned his name, just referred to her husband occasionally. She sang great and was very funny. |

High-priced Karaoke. I guess he doesn't want to share the money. |

It was more of a high-priced singer-songwriter show. He would sit on a stool, play guitar & sing, and talk about how & why he wrote or recorded the song and what it meant to him. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

True, but compared to all the other shows on the Vegas strip, that use tracks and canned music, Garth's was possibly the furthest from karaoke.
A friend of mine was Garth's "Tech" for the show, for a while, until Wynn laid off a couple of hundred employees including my friend. He said Garth mostly just walked around talking, then every now and then would sing a song. Said that he wanted to do it with a band, but since Garth was just flying in every weekend, to just do 4 shows, it was going to cost way to much to fly in his band every weekend.
The latest news is that Shania Twain is about to sign a deal to start doing shows at Caesars Palace. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

Maybe Garth should hire on at Caesar's. (Wait 'till they get the tab for Shania!!) |

He did these shows to raise funds for the Nashville Flood Relief, right? He always did seem like a nice fella. |

The nine shows that he is doing in December at the Bridgestone Arena, in Nashville, are for the "Community Foundation Tennessee Flood Relief". They sold out 140,000 tickets at $25 a piece, and all of the proceeds($3.5 ML) are going to the relief fund.
The weekly "solo shows", that Garth does in Vegas, are part of a five year contract he has with the Wynn Casino, that includes a $15 million Private Jet to fly him out here every weekend.
The ticket prices on those shows just went up from, the original Garth set price of $143 a show, to $253 a show.
Is Garth worth $250 a show story. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

Just in Nashville this weekend, Well all the tickets might have sold, but the scalpers were all over the place literally trying to give away tickets, I asked one how much, at first he said $25, then asked how much do you want to pay? |

Steve, I watched an interview with Garth today on CMT Insider and he said This money doesn't go into Garth Brooks' pocket, it goes to flood relief.

I'll have to say that the person(s) who had the brilliant idea to put the venue in downtown Nashville were out of their minds. I was in town on the 20th to see the Timejumpers. Had some time to kill so the wife and I went down to lower Broadway as I wanted to go into Gruhn's Guitar shop.
It was impossible to find a place to park as the streets were full, the sidewalks and everything on account of Garth's concert(s). My wife suggested that she drive around the block a couple of times while I went inside and that's what we did.......
Later on that night at the Station Inn we sat with a couple that were in an earlier concert and said that the people trying to get into the second show were having trouble because the people in the first show were trying to get out. The city had some streets blocked off here and there and it was just a big mess.
You'd think that if Nashville had wanted an arena they'd have taken a piece of property farther out of town with interstate access and lots of parking, but no, they decided to put the d@mn thing right downtown. Makes a lot of sense, eh?.....JH in VA. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

I heard that the Garth concerts raised $10,000,000 for the Nashville Flood Relief.. That is some serious bread!! Way to go Garth..
and being as smart as he is, I'm guessing there are people he trusts watching where it all goes.. |

...then downtown Nashville would die. When there is an event at the arena, be it music, or the Preds, many of the downtown businesses benefit. |

Jerry,
I feel your pain......Before the stadium and the arena that whole lower Broadway area was pretty much peep shows and knife bars.......It wasn't safe to go to ET's record shop anymore.......Now with all its high volume its our Time Square....Its a pain to get in and out of but considering where that area was headed, IMO, it was a pretty smart effort to revive downtown.........Paul |
